Polk County Humane Society strives to match potential adopters with a pet that is best suited to your home, interests and lifestyle. Our staff makes every effort to work with you and help you find your perfect match here at our Shelter. If for some reason, we can't help you find your new companion, we will point you in the direction of other shelters and rescue groups. We are dedicated to placing homeless, adoptable animals with loving, caring families like you.

Adoption Overview

Before you begin your search, we invite you to think it through. Adopting a pet is a big decision, one that is a life-term commitment. Ask yourself, am I ready for a pet? Is this the right time? Will I be able to care for a dog or cat with the resources I have?

We also encourage you to do your research and find the pet that's right for you. Once you've given some serious thought about what it takes to be a responsible pet owner, take a look at our available animals and visit us during shelter hours to find your new best friend.

To adopt, you must come into the Shelter and complete and application form. We strongly recommend that all members of the household, including any other pets you currently own, meet the new pet prior to finalizing an adoption. *Adopters must be 18 years of age and possess a valid photo ID.

Our adoption fees include up-to-date shots according to the animal's age. It is our policy to spay and neuter all animals before we relinquish ownership to the adoptive family.

Animals Available for Adoption

Above, you fill find a list of our adoptable animals featured through PetFinder.

If there is a particular animal you are interested in meeting, you are welcome to call the Shelter to make sure the animal is still available. Also, if you do not see a pet that meets your requirements, please remember that additional animals come in every few days. Your new family member may be at the Shelter, but not on the webpage yet. Feel free to come by during Shelter hours to see who is with us today.

To reach more potential adopters, we also regularly post adoptable animals on a picture album on our Facebook page. You do not have to have an account with Facebook to view our pages, but if you do, we hope you will become a Polk County Humane Society Facebook fan.
